The Back-to-School / Real Estate Correlation

As I was dropping off my 2 boys at kindergarten and pre-school yesterday, I wondered what kind of affect the back-to-school season had on the real estate market.  I know that if I had plans of moving to a new city, or simply buying a new home in my current city, I would want to have my family settled before school started.  Apparently, I am not alone.  According to SFGate, sellers love to list their homes in the spring due to the fact that buyers are abundant during that time.  The Holiday season is over, and buyers are scrambling to find their home and move in before their kids go back to school.  The said scrambling will generally continue through the summer, and slow down considerably in August.

So, during the spring and summer months, sellers are more likely to receive multiple offers at or above the listed price.  For buyers, maybe having your family settled before school starts is not so important after all.
